Non-Pharmacological Treatment of Diabetic Polyneuropathy

Non-pharmacological treatment of diabetic polyneuropathy with pulsed electromagnetic field was the topic of a comparative study (Mirkovic, V., 2012) which assessed the effects of 10-Hz and 25-Hz pulsed magnetic therapy in 71 patients.

Patients were randomly divided into two groups. One group was treated with 10 Hz pulsed magnetic therapy and the other with 25 Hz frequency. Neuropathic symptoms were assessed before and after the treatments.

Results showed that pulsed magnetic therapy overall greatly reduces the signs and symptoms of neuropathy.

The analgesic effect of therapy was, however, different for each group. The study reported much lower levels of pain in feet of patients who underwent pulsed magnetic therapy of 25 Hz frequency.
