Possibility of Treating Knee Osteoarthritis
Treatment option for osteoarthritis of the knee
Possibility of treating knee osteoarthritis with low-frequency pulsed magnetic fields of 1.5 Hz frequency and 30 mT intensity was tested on 70 patients by a Romanian team of I. Moldovan in a randomized, placebo-controlled study (2012).
The main objective was to determine whether pulsed magnetic therapy can be more effective than ultrasound therapy and thermotherapy.
After a ten-day treatment, in which pulsed magnetic therapy was applied every day for 15 minutes only in 35 patients, all 70 patients experienced improvement.
Patients with early or moderately advanced knee osteoarthritis that underwent pulsed magnetic therapy, confirmed much greater analgesic effect of pulsed magnetic field with their results.
Pulsed magnetic therapy therefore represents an appropriate complimentary treatment of knee osteoarthritis due to its significant analgesic effects that contribute to physical health of patients.
